Christmas Decor

So Chris and I have gone really lite on the Christmas Decor this year. We usually decorate to the hilt, but this was all we had energy for. This horse is the first decoration we acquired.(9 years ago...) My grandma tries to give something to decorate the house each year. We have collected several things from her over the years, but they haven't made an appearance this year.
This holiday decoration is probably the most sentimental to me.

Vespers

Over the weekend Chris and I had the opportunity to attend the 63rd annual Vespers holiday choir concert. Vespers includes the A Capella and Chambers singers at Mesa High. This tradition of all holiday music really gets you in the seasonal spirit.

I need to think of a new name for my monthly scrapbooking posts-what are your ideas??
(Remember that the paper changes every month)

Well this month had a Christmas/Birthday feeling, but don't limit yourself--These photos were taken at a birthday party, but they are not birthday-ish. Or Christmas-sy if you will-(My scrapbooing paper WILL NOT dictate the type of photos I use)

Don't foget that these lovely card need a name also--

Fright Night

Chris spent the morning decorating and was able to give our home an authentic feel.

Ol' Sparky can be very electrifying. I would definitely recommend avoiding the electric chair if at all possible. Yes, pumpkins have feeling too!!

Sometimes the preparation is the best part. We even had someone try to carry on a conversation with the previous electric chair cantidate. It took him a few minutes to realize that the dead tell no tales. Pretty funny--

Crafter's Corner

I have been part of a scrapbook club for a couple years now. The group meets once every month. Our group is filled with a variety of wonderful people. Sheila, the Close to My Heart consultant, is great. Each month we make an average of 4 scrapbook pages. Then we finalize the pages at home by adding pictures and journaling. I was able to complete our first 4 pages and finish an additional 4 pages along with 12 cards-cool huh? I have some of this paper still left so who knows what I'll make now. Tonight we meet and will have new projects for next month.

I think I'll post some of my scrapbooking/craft projects each month just to keep me motivated and give me a sense of accomplishment.

These 4 scrapbook pages along with these 12 cards are extras. (There are 2 of each card)

Polka Anyone?

This is the latest activity in our ward. It exceeded expectations at every corner. The 250+ atendees look like they're having so much fun. There were game booths for the kids and prizes were an absolute hit.

When ate authentic brats and had hot dogs and chips. The German Potato Salad and Saurerkraut provided a very unique and authenticity to the evening. To top it off we had apple struedel for dessert.
We were taught the polka and given a chance to put on our dancin' shoes. (You can see the kids having fun in the background.
Some of the men even learned a slap dance routine to provide some good entertainment for the rest of us.

There was a sing-along for the children and even included participation from everyone else. It was so much fun-THANKS to all who planned, served, cooked, attended-everyone!!!

to slide or not to slide

This is the sliding glass door that leads to our backyard. There would be a lot to enjoy if I could at least get outside. My walker needs a 25" clearance in any doorway, but my sliding glass door only has a 22" clearance...what to do???
After contemplating possible solutions my wonderful husband decided for the following modification....

This door happens to be 36". Enough clearance for my walker-woo hoo!!!
Now I can enjoy the beautiful backyard and the great weather. My husband was able to trade out sliding door for regular door in just 1 day.
I am so glad he came up with this. He even took care of the curtain. After talking with his mom about not be able to find a suitable curtain(Finding something we agree on is almost impossible), she made one for us. It fits just perfect and looks great. THANKS.

*Lions, Tigers, and Bears-Oh my!!!(This was a game that my Grandpa used to play with my cousins and I when we were young.)
*

this scene was was frequently quoted by my dad each time this movie was brought up!!

Thanks to The Wizard Of Oz for giving me wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.

Cream Soup Mix

I've had several people ask for this recipe-so here it is:

Cream Soup Mix
1 ¼ C powered milk
¼ C chicken bouillon
1 tsp Italian seasoning
¾ C cornstarch
2 T dried onion flakes(optional)
Combine all ingredients. Store until ready to use. ¼ C mix + 1 ¼ C water=1 can cream soup.

I use this recipe whenever I need cream soup. It also is really good base for broccoli/cheese soup or other vegetable soup base. I love cream of mushroom soup so I just add fresh chopped mushrooms. Sometimes, I even saute the mushrooms before I add them. The mixture takes about 15-20 min when cook on medium-low. The final soup will be a little bit runny(pancake batter consistency).

Got Snortin' Laughter?

Have you ever laughed so hard you cry and snort at the same time? Well- Let me tell you a little story.... (h-hum)

Once upon a time... Brandi was sittin' on a couch watching TV. She happened to be sitting in the middle of the sofa between her prince and brother. All of the sudden, her mom asks if she can have a shoulder rub. As Brandi gets on the floor to crawl over to the recliner, McKay(the oh-so-quick brother) decides to sit in front of said recliner. After some loving wrestling Brandi finally got up into the chair. Mom had to coax the oh-so-quick brother to get some homework done. Things were going great until....the oh-so-quick brother decides that he needs to see everyone. Slowly the recliner begins to tip back ever so slightly. When Brandi looked like a stranded turtle(yeah-on the back with the arms and legs flailing around in the air),the o-s-q brother puts the chair down. Everything was almost normal except for the snaughing but then the o-s-q brother instantly decided that he liked the "stranded turtle" and did it over and over. The end............

Neverending....

I know that your thinkin' Neverending Story-you might even be singin' the song. I must blog quickly cause I've got a movie to watch!!!

Anywho- This post is to let you know bout the books I've been reading...

The month started with this novel written by Alice Sebold. I read this book only because I saw a movie trailer for it. And, in most cases, I like to read the book before I watch the movie. This book jumped and moved around so much that it was confusing to me. It really had no plot and I was not in any hurry to finish. I now understand what ADD/ADHD feels like in your mind-NO THANKS!!!!!!!!!

This is the book that I was able too finish in 2 days. I finished quickly not because it was so superb, but because I happen to be really far behind on my reading schedule. This book contains a lot of slang or slanguage as I call it. I can definitely see why its in the YA category. It is very true-to-life for teens and what they experience before becoming adults. I thought I would like the vampyre subject matter, but instead am starting to feel that you really don't know what is myth or fact. The vampyres in this book are quite different than the typical sleep-in-coffins, afraid of garlic and crosses vamps. They're even slightly different than EDWARD(ooh! another movie-looks like a double feature).

I am now reading Betrayed. That is the next book after Marked. "Why are you reading it if you didn't care for the first one?" Well-you must give the series a chance. What if books 2-5 are really good? Should I miss out because 1/5 of the series is only o.k.? And if #2 is not that great, I will still be "hoping" that it gets better. By the time you've read #3, you are already more than 50% invested in the series so you might as well finish them-so NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!

Just Chillax

We're all loaded and ready for our chillaxin' weekend. Hope we didn't forget anything because here we go-- I forgot the juice, candy bars, and wait for it-the sleeping bags. Not cool!!(Thank goodness dad has extra bed rolls). Well, lets keep going. About 2 1/2 hours later we find...this beautiful camping spot. It is great because ther isn't a lot of mud...Sure hope it doesn't rain. After we set up camp for the night, the camp cooks decide to cook hamburgers for dinner. Boy were they tasty.

It would be really cool to have spotlighting pictures, but the camera(and its night vision) was forgotten. There is however some redemption in the following nature walk pictures....

Our state is just beautiful if you take the time to enjoy it. I think that we should take the golf cart out and take some more pictures..

Should we sit here and wait for thirsty animals?? Maybe some great shots can be taken--

OK no big animals, but there are some camera shy squirrels. This tree is cool because only the inside is burned. I wonder why its twisted? Hmm.....
Why do only those trees grow in clumps like that??

McKay taught Chris to shoot a bow this trip. It was Chris' first time and he enjoyed it tremendously. We now owe McKay some new arrows because Chris definitely aimed at the ground and the trees........By golly-I think he's got the hang of it
This picture is the "we're-having-to-much-fun" shot. What is your chillax time without some tear staining laughs??
The moon looks so cool after the rains. We couldn't stop playing with the camera setting and were able too capture some very nice shots...
Which one do you like best??(#1 above, or #2 below)

Fried potatoes is always a good meal(but I always think of the part in Lord of the Rings where Smeagol asks "what's taters?" I don't know why I think of this, but I do. And I always chuckle.)
You know you've acheivedthe right chillax stage, when you put your heart and soul into your music....

What is any chillaxin' trip without the group photo??
